Google App Engine Registration

Google look set to open the same cloud computing infrastructure powering Internet behemoths like Google Analytics (Urchin), Google Earth and social networking site Orkut to web developers for free! Let the Cloud Wars begin!

Google App Engine is currently in Preview Release with Google announcing open registration to the system with existing Google Accounts until the service quota is full. Sign up your Google App Engine account today.

I’m loving this move by search giant Google and am eager to further investigate how to take advantage of what is essentially a free Digg proof database hosting service.

What’s great… is that Google will not claim ownership of applications built in Google App Engine and web developers will have an easier integration to other Google services through smarter API access.

What’s not… is that until standards are established you’re stuck with your new best friend, Google, making that future switch to another provider like Amazon or [Insert new name] more than a little troublesome.

At the end of the day stay under your free 5,000,000 page views per month and Google’s still your safe, free, bet for now.
