Installing Azureus Vuze in Ubuntu Intrepid
I’m a first time Ubuntu user and want to share my experience of how to install the Bittorent client Azureus Vuze on the popular Linux distribution Ubuntu: 8.1 (Intrepid).
I cover setting iinet’s FTP server as the default Software Source in Ubuntu in a related article.
- Open a Terminal session from the Applications > Accessories system drop-down
- Send the command ’sudo apt-get install azureus’, confirm your Administrator password if prompted
- When prompted, press ‘y’ to being installing Azureus
- Send the command ’sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre’, confirm your Administrator password if prompted
- When prompted, press ‘y’ to being installing Java 6 JRE
- You will need to accept the Sun Java EULA to install Java 6 JRE
- Send the command ’sudo update-alternatives –config java’
- Select the entry with ‘/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java’ in the Alternative column, by default this is 2
- Configure your TCP/UDP port forwarding on your ADSL router
- Open Azureus Vuze from the Applications > Internet system drop-down
