Continuing our series on building the ultimate e-mail newsletter template we’re now focusing on the header region, well regarded as the most important region of any online newsletter.

  • Support for text-based e-mail clients by providing a link to a browser-based version of your newsletter using the text “Having trouble viewing the newsletter? Click here to view online” at the very top of your e-mail newsletter template
  • Newsletter logo in top left corner
  • Regional office links to the right of the newsletter logo
  • Emphasised newsletter title including the date frequency of publication like “Newsletter - November 2008″
  • Start your opening paragraph with “Hello Bob,” in emphasised styling
  • Add a thumbnail and brief excerpt of the newsletter author
  • Promotional item or newsletter features (e.g. Send to a friend, enter to win, etc.) to the right of opening paragraph
  • Table of contents in list format introducing the topics covered in the newsletter
