SER: SEO Link Commandments; Linking

By Michael Visser.

Jeremy Bolt’s session on Linking at Search Engine Room 2007A highlight from Jeremy Bolt’s (from Bruce Clay Australia) session in the Terrace Room on Linking, covering some very insensible inbound linking strategies that are a sin to commit and bring the wrath of God - I mean Google… - upon the site in focus.

SEO Link Commandments

  1. Thou shalt do whatever the search engine with market share wants
  2. Thou shalt not spam
  3. Thou shalt focus on link quality, not quantity
  4. Thou shalt not buy links
  5. Thou shalt not use page rank for evil
  6. Thou shalt create unique content others will link to
  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery, but if you have to, use a link condom (rel=”external nofollow”)
  8. Thou shalt use link text wisely
  9. Thou shalt use links to create focus
  10. Thou shalt manage and build links for SEO
