This is not a default behavior for the Sony Ericsson P1i.

  1. Backup the contents of your Sony Ericsson P1i
  2. Open Main menu
  3. Open Control panel
  4. Open Other
  5. Open Master reset
  6. Ensure Delete all user installed applications is unchecked
  7. Press Delete

Your Sony Ericsson P1i should now default to landscape Main menu rotation.
